Our second episode of THE CRAFT features Terryn Buxton, creator of Oakland Extracts. We sat down to talk about his journey in the cannabis industry– going from budtender to owner of one of our favorite brands and products.
Oakland Extracts believes everyone in should have access to high-quality hash at an affordable price. That’s why they prioritize sourcing our starting material from small, local farms that offer the best possible quality. Through years of experience, Oakland Extracts developed a proprietary technique that maximizes the retention of terpenes, the aromatic compounds responsible for the natural flavors and aromas of cannabis.
Whether you’re new to cannabis extracts, a long-time consumer or just generally interested in the cannabis industry –– this video is for you. Thank you Terryn for your time!
If you’ve ever reached into the back of your freezer and pulled out a can of orange juice concentrate, you already have a basic understanding of cannabis concentrates. Just like that frozen juice, cannabis concentrates are the result of distilling down the most desirable parts of the plant to create a concentrated product with heightened potency.
What exactly are these desirable parts of the plant?
They’re the cannabinoids and terpenes that are responsible for the effects, aroma, and flavors of cannabis. Found in small, sparkling structures called trichomes, these compounds are condensed in cannabis concentrates, leaving behind excess plant material. This means that, ounce for ounce, cannabis concentrates have a much higher concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes than raw cannabis flowers.
Trichomes can be seen on any high-quality cannabis flower, where they coat the entire surface of the plant, but are particularly noticeable on the flower buds. Concentrates provide a way to experience the best parts of cannabis in a variety of textures and consumption methods. Depending on the final form, cannabis concentrates and extracts can be consumed on their own, added to joints to increase potency, or precisely incorporated into edibles.
With cannabis concentrates, users have the ability to enjoy a more potent and refined experience. Whether you prefer to vaporize or dab, use a concentrate pen or add to your favorite recipe, cannabis concentrates offer a versatile and customizable experience that allows you to enjoy the essence of the plant in a multitude of ways.
While dabbing is the most common way to consume concentrated cannabis, not all concentrate consumers are dabbers. Dabbing involves heating a concentrate or extract until it vaporizes, creating a potent vapor that the user can inhale. This consumption method is why concentrates are often referred to as dabs. However, there are many other ways to experience these products beyond dabbing.
Cannabis concentrates can be consumed via vape pens, tinctures, topicals, edibles, and more. Vape pens are a popular option for concentrate consumers because they allow for discreet and convenient consumption on-the-go. Tinctures and topicals offer a non-inhalation method of consumption, which may be preferable for those with respiratory issues or a desire for a more localized effect. Edibles, on the other hand, provide a discreet and long-lasting effect that is perfect for those looking for a more sustained high.
The versatility of cannabis concentrates means that there is a consumption method suitable for every consumer’s preferences and needs. So, whether you’re a seasoned dabber or prefer a different consumption method, cannabis concentrates offer a potent and customizable experience that can be tailored to your liking.
Don’t be shy–– ask your Guide (or budtender) to show you the way. We’re here to show you the most interesting cannabis concentrates coming out of California and would love to talk to you in-person about Oakland Extracts.
